On Monday evening Stirling Primary's Under 13 A Cricket side defended their Old Selbornians Fast 15 title, won by last years team, against George Randell Primary. In the play offs Stirling beat Gonubie by 27 runs and Crewe by 29 runs to earn their place in the Final. George Randell beat Selborne and Hudson Park to earn their place. George Randell won the toss and batted first. Stirling through tight fielding and bowling restricted George Randell to 38 for 8 in their allotted 15 overs. Stirling then went in to bat needing 39 for victory. Two early wickets had Stirling stuttering along at 11 for 2 after 7 overs, however, cometh the hour, cometh the man, and that was Matthew Thorp who took the team to the brink of victory, losing his wicket with the team on 38 for 4. Result: Stirling won the match and the championship by 5 wickets. Matthew Thorp won man-of-the-match in the final and Mbulelo Mama won Man-of-the-series. Well done to Stirling as well as a big thank you to the organisers, Mr Chris Patrick and his team from Old Selbornians and the sponsors of the tournament, POWERADE. Gonubie beat Hudson Park in the 3rd and 4th place play off while the 5th and 6th place playoff between Crewe and Selborne was shared as the match rained out.
